Aero Hardware & Supply Adds New Quality and Productivity Capability to Hose Shop

We are constantly investing to ensure quality and productivity in our hose production shop.  In April 2006 we started using a new Finn-Power model FP 160 crimp machine with an electronic VS controller.

VS control is a modem user interface based on icons, a selector and clear visual indication of all swaging parameters. When the desired swaging diameter is given, the interactive VS automatically recommends a die set among those stored in its tool management memory. Swaging parameters are specified at a tolerance of 0. 1 mm.

Some of the quality features are:

  • Aeroquip is using this machine in their facility and has several years of measurements verifying the machines capability. We will be measuring ourselves to ensure this continues.
  • The dies don’t move parallel to the hose when crimping so locating the crimp is easier and more accurate.
  • The electronic control on the machine allows us to store the style and hose size, so a simple menu selection specifies the proper dies and crimp diameter.
  • A crimp count is displayed so that after each batch of hoses is made you can verify all ends were crimped.

Some of the productivity features are:

  • The crimp machine is rated for 1800 crimps per hour.
  • Set up is fast – you just pick your hose type from the menu and the dies are specified. The die opening is and the crimp dwell time is pre-set.
  • A quick change die tool makes changing dies fast and easy.
  • Locating the crimp is fast and easy since the dies don’t move parallel to the hose.
  • 200 different hose types can be stored in the memory of the control unit.
